Observer conducts Monday Briefing
Observer conducts
the Monday AM briefings
|
Action sequence:
·
Sunday evening, Observer prints analysis charts -
surface, 850, 500, 300 mb charts.
·
Observer either analyzes charts and reviews analysis
with Forecaster, or analyzes them with the Forecaster.
·
When they have a good depiction, they mark in with
marker.
·
Daywatch comes in, examines charts, inputs charts to
JMV (Joint METOC Viewer).
·
Have satellite charts, surface, 48hr forecast, and
tropical conditions to be reported.
·
Present report
|
What supports the action sequence?
|
What is the needed information?
|
Difax charts from NWS, 48 hour from forecaster - observer
presents, Satellite from SAND, Tropical from 48 hour, slide depiction of
warnings, positions, wind, direction, etc.
|
|
What is good or useful about the support and the depiction
of needed information?
|
·
All data is here locally - don't have to find or wait
for data.
·
The program JMV has a lot of potential - it is a good
way to display data.
·
Briefing is a good way to get Observers training -
they tape the briefs which can be reviewed. Observers talk, interact about
the weather in a training environment.
|
What about the support or information depiction makes the
action sequence difficult?
|
·
There is almost no formal training at all for
presentations of briefs.
·
No course in C school.
·
They do have 12 days in C school in which they
hand-draw charts and briefs.
·
These are more about briefs for strikes rather than for
general or aviation forecasting.
·
JMV is new (version 3.1, three years old).
·
Many don't know its full capabilities - learn minimum
functionality to create slide show. Software also has numerous horizontal
weather depictions (HWDs), can build animations, overlay SIGMETS, tropical
warnings, observation and forecast data, etc.
