Areas of Responsibility



The Facility has several Areas of Responsibility (AORs) which correspond to its different customers and their unique forecast requirements.  The Facility provides forecasts to CNET for “Sub-Region CHARLIE”, which encompasses Alabama, Mississippi, and parts of Florida and coastal waters to 50 nm. CNATRA Aviation Weather Warnings (CaWWs) are issued for the area out to a radius of 100 nm from LNPA. The local flying area covers an area out to a radius of 350 nm from KNPA. 

C-1:  Encompasses both land and water areas of coastal Mississippi.  This area is bounded on the east by the Alabama state line, on the north by 31.00 degrees North latitude, on the west by the Louisiana state line, and on the south by a line paralleling the coastline 50 nm seaward into the Gulf of Mexico. 

C-2:  Encompasses both land and water areas of coastal Alabama and the extreme western portion of  Northwest Florida.  The area is bounded on the east by the Okaloosa-Walton County Florida line, to the north by the Florida-Alabama state line, and the by the northern boundaries of Baldwin and Mobile counties in Alabama.  On the west by the Mississippi state line and on the south by a line paralleling the coastline 50 nm into the Gulf of Mexico. 

C-3:  Encompasses both land and water areas of the central portion of Northwest Florida.  This area is bounded on the east by the Apalachicola and Chattahoochee Rivers, on the north by the Florida-Alabama state line, on the west by the Walton-Okaloosa County, Florida line and on the south by a line paralleling the coastline 50 nm seaward into the Gulf of Mexico. 

C-4:  Encompasses the inland portions of the states of Alabama and Mississippi.  This area is bounded on the east by the Alabama-Georgia state line, on the north by the Tennessee state line, on the west by the state line between Mississippi, Arkansas, and Louisiana, and on the south by the northern boundaries of Warning Areas C-1, C-2 and C-3.
